Surface Water Hydrology
Surface water systems provide the replenishable water in the hydrologic cycle that is renewable, but only available in finite quantities.
It is, therefore, important to protect and manage available renewable water. Characterization of maximum and minimum flows, seasonal changes in flow, average or firm flows, and/or hydraulic interaction of surface with ground water flows may be the focal point of understanding a surface water system. These characterizations can be used for planning and water management purposes to assess firm yields and long-term sustainability.
